The Makeup Show DC

The Makeup Show made its way to the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. for their first-ever,  Artist 2.0 – The Makeup Show Forum. This two-day experience gave makeup artists a chance to attend workshops for education, purchase products from the latest indie brands and also network with other artists in the industry. Here at CosmoBiz, we have covered The Makeup Show in New York City, a bigger a greater parent to the D.C. event and the experience has always been mesmerizing. We love getting the chance to watch world-renowned artists perform.

The Makeup Show Forum was in a smaller, more intimate setting for artists at the Grand Hyatt Washington from July 31st to August 2nd. Just like the other show, indie brands lined down the aisles of the conference room showcasing their latest products. There were an array of new faces as well as our returning favorites. There were also panel speakers with our favorite being Ashunta Sheriff, makeup artist for your favorite celebrities like Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Hudson, and Alicia Keys. Ashunta dropped many gems about getting her start in the industry and staying true to herself while working for top-name celebrities.

What was the biggest trend for makeup brands at the show? GLOW. Almost at every both, each brand centered on products to make your skin glow. We saw a lot of shimmering body and face luminizers for every skin type. One of our favorite pro-artists brands, Danessa Myricks released a Hydrating Lotion in the shade Peach that looks amazing on melanated skin tones. Melanie Mills Hollywood also had an array of body shimmering luminizers and body foundations that did not rub off the skin onto clothing.

The Makeup Show Forum held in DC was an amazing introductory show in the city for artists who can’t travel or afford to attend the show in New York. With the expansion of this intimate show in other cities, we can’t wait for it to get bigger and become a destination show for all pro-makeup artists to visit.
